Today's the Day: Blog

The Right Question

Posted: Tuesday, March 17th, 2009

Happy St. Patricks Day… For once it didn't take long for me to figure out what to wear to work…I don't own many green clothes, which meant finding the green section of my color coordinated closet was pretty easy to spot. It has 4 items in it, 2 of which are meant for summer. My true accessory today was the green headband with green hair and shamrocks…At least I tried! Having studied at UMass/Amherst, I spent quite a bit of time in Boston over the St. Patricks Day festivities, so my memories of St. Patricks Day revolved around feeling Green the following day. I usually needed a day or two to recover, today I actually looked up the history behind the day and realized it has much more to do with community involvement and lending a hand; especially to ones neighbor. I like that motto much better than the green beer!!!!

Today's, Today's The Day segment had more to do with a daily affirmation than anything else. Dr. Yoni Freedhoff, Director at the Bariatric Medical Institute wanted us to spend some time reflecting on the kinds of questions we ask ourselves during the day. Why didn’t I do this? Why didn’t I do that? The repetitive negative questions aren’t helping out any and are only getting in the way of positive thinking.

So the challenge for the day: If you have a negative thought, or are asking yourself negative questions, catch yourself doing it, then ask yourself the positive version instead. Ok…So I wasn’t able to do this today, how can I change if for next time? Giving yourself positive re-enforcement may just be the little extra boost you need.

Pretty basic, but tough to do!
