Here's what we hit on today and yesterday!

Monday: The Kettlebell one arm swing. Lauren Scott was back with us to get the week started. Lauren works at Good Life Fitness in Barhaven. In addition to her normal personal training duties she has also created her own bootcamp sessions and workouts which include the Kettlebell. Here is some information she had for you:

Kettlebell Swing

  • Target Muscle Groups
  • Glutes and Hamstrings
  • Core
  • Back (upper and lower)
  • Shoulders, Arms, and Hands
  • Most Kettlebell Exercises are built off of the Swing
  • Overall conditioning
  • Explosive Endurance
  • Increased heart rate
  • Timed: 30-45 seconds
  • Tips: Power through hips and glutes
  • Pop the hips: driving the hips up not forward
  • Loosen arms: all in the hips and glutes not lifting with arms
  • Not bending forward: start from squatting position

Single Handed Swing

  • Using one hand
  • Transisiton into double handed swing to other side
  • Opposite arm  stays out to the side
  • Do not twist your torso

It's tough to explain how this weighted piece of equipment really works but you can check out a number of websites which offer information:

You can order the kettlebells on line but you can find them at sporting stores like Fitness Depot.

You can also contact Lauren for more information at: lauren.scott@goodlifemakesiteasy.com

On Tuesdays show we talked about snacks. I am the first to admit that I can get pretty bored with snacks and meals and find it hard sometimes to get creative. That’s when I usually time it perfectly to soak in the information Teri Gentes offers up. Teri is a Natural Nutrition and Wellness Coach. She had us dipping our bananas and apples into tasty healthy treats to get our fruit snacks to go the mile. Teri talked about the Banana Fondue! Forget the melted chocolate, the bananas were dipped in Chai ( a product very similar to Salba) while the apples were dipped in flax and cinnamon. Here is the information on Chia: http://www.living-foods.com/articles/chia.html
